The 6th Mangrove Macrobenthos and Management meeting (MMM6) convened in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, from 24 to 28 July, 2023 and adopted the tagline “Mangrove ecosystems for human well-being in a changing planet.” The symposium brought together over 450 participants from a wide range of sectors and 40 countries across five continents in a shared forum to present research advances, discuss strategies for mangrove conservation and management, and promote the role of mangroves as nature-based solutions to climate change.

Following a call for papers issued during the conference, the editorial office of the Bulletin of Marine Science received 41 submissions. After a thorough peer review process, 25 contributions were accepted for inclusion in this special issue. Authored by dozens of researchers from around the world, these articles reflect the diverse, interdisciplinary, and international nature of contemporary mangrove science.
